Program Summary

One Day AT A Time (ODAAT) is a partner of the Urban Affairs Coalition (UAC). Through our holistic array of services ODAAT, consumers can expect the support of ODAAT staff to bring systems together to help achieve positive outcomes. Staff offer support in the following areas: recovery coaching and mentoring, linkage to health and social services, transitional housing, and community outreach.

Position Summary

Employee in this job is responsible for the management of septa team workers who engage homeless persons, persons with mental health, and persons who use drugs. Staff members may assess then determine needs, offer relevant services, and deliver follow-up services.  Supervisors will engage in leadership development activity to encourage and motivate employees. Supervisors will assist with data collection and implementation of policy and procedure related to SEPTA and ODAAT outreach procedures.

Key Duties & Responsibilities:

  • Assist with members experiencing homelessness, mental health challenges, and Substance Use within the community; assess needs, and offer appropriate services;
  • Be thoroughly familiar with Sidewalk Ordinance; train, support and manage team members
  • Work cooperatively with business owners, septa police, and concerned citizens to serve the needs of persons encountered in the community 
  • Respond to requests from SEPTA Police officers, elevator attendants, station cashiers and maintenance and custodian employees to engage member at specific locations 
  • Coordinate, schedule and participate in daily outreach team meetings and the efforts made to engage members in the community who are around SEPTA stations and property 
  • Refer members to shelters, cafes, safe havens, or treatment options. 
  • Project a positive image of SEPTA/ODAAT and its programs to the community, and SEPTA customers 
  • Participate in all staff meetings and required training activities, including training on basic platform safety 
  • Maintain accurate paper and computer files for member files and staff files
  • Always maintain situational awareness and use de-escalation strategies to maintain a calm and welcoming environment, conducting individual interventions as needed for members
  • Ensure that all encounters with individuals are documented on a daily basis and submitted to SEPTA’s liaison, Ken Divers at kdivers@septa.org
  • Ensure incident reporting to include writing incident reports, reporting to immediate supervisor and following procedure 
  • Maintain compliance with HIPPA 
  • Other duties as assigned

Education, Knowledge, Skills & Abilities (Minimum Qualifications):

  • Associates Degree or 2+ years or prior outreach and community work experience in the field and/or related field preferred
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office software, including Excel; 
  • Strong writing, typing, reading, listening and speaking communications skills.
  • Able to set and observe appropriate boundaries with staff and members.
  • Possess well-developed decision making skills and attention to detail with a high level of accuracy.
  • Ability to excel in a diverse, collaborative team environment.
  • Possess a high level of interpersonal skills to handle sensitive and confidential member alliance, donor, and employee information and situations.
  • Able to multi-task and remain calm in demanding and unpredictable situations. 
  • Possess ability to understand various operations and procedures. 
  • Ability to work and communicate with staff, members and their families, donors, vendors, community agencies, etc. to meet their needs in a polite, courteous and cooperative manner, yet appropriate assertive as situation may demand.
  • Display a high level of initiative, effort and commitment towards completing assignments efficiently.
  • Possess excellent time management skills and the ability to work with minimum supervision.
  • Able to meet a flexible work schedule including evenings and weekends and available on-call for emergencies by telephone and/or cell phone.
  • Bilingual a plus.

  • Valid Pennsylvania driver’s license
  • Proof of Insurance.

WORK ENVIRONMENT

The employee will work in an office and public, service-delivery environment. Hectic situations can occur in the public area of the facility characteristic to working with the homeless community and the related concerns and situations related to homeless conditions. Potential exists for volatile and unpredictable situations to occur. May experience exposure to strong odors such as soiled clothes and poor hygiene.
